Notes From The Google Sphere…
Will Google start ranking sites based on a site’s speed as part of the algorithm that ranks the order of pages in it’s search results? Google’s Matt Cutts dropped this little bombshell on a recent interview on WebProNews.
Pete Cashmore recently posted an article on Mashable that asks the question:
Should Google Rank Sites Based on Speed?
Pete points out several reasons why Google is considering this change.
- Google searches are more productive
- User experience improvements on wider web
- More revenue for everyone
Pete also points out several reasons against the change.
- Favors big / powerful sites
- Greatest benefits go to Google
- The fastest site isn’t always the best result
Fast sites might rank higher, while slower-loading sites might suffer. It’s a proposal that’s proving controversial.
If you are just getting started in blogging or internet marketing, you should keep this in mind when building your sites. If you are a seasoned internet marketer with a lot of time and money already invested, it may be something that you should keep a close eye on…after all, traffic generation and the ultimate success of your business is contingent on first page rankings.
So are you fast enough or should you just continue to post valuable content?
