Article Marketing Principles | How To Create Massive Traffic

by Kory Taylor on February 14, 2010

Several years ago a good friend introduced me to a marketing method that was being touted as the best online method to drive highly qualified traffic. Could article marketing really be as good as they say? At first I was very skeptical of its presumed value because of the fact that you would have to create so many articles to actually benefit from the article submissions which seemed beyond to scope of the average persons ability, and not to mention desire, to actually get any real results.

After doing a little research and talking to a few experts in article marketing, I decided to give article marketing a chance to prove its worth. To my surprise what happened next was nothing short of amazing. Within the first couple of months I not only created over twelve hundred leads for my online business, but I was able to generate more than twenty seven thousand visitors to my blog. Was it Luck? No, it was Strategy. The reason I was able to produce such dramatic results was not because I accidentally stumbled on to some untapped traffic source or hidden secret article writing coarse, but because I understood the three basic principles of online traffic creation that too many people just don’t understand. To be successful in article marketing, it is imperative that you follow these simple foundational principles to winning in article marketing:

Keep Your Content Original

If you take into account that article directories and search engines reward articles for original and unique content by giving them higher rankings and punish or ‘sandbox’ articles that don’t, why would you not want to be original? It’s also important to write with your own personality and don’t be afraid to say what’s actually on your mind. You know what I’m talking about…too many writers will bore you to death with their lack of personality and their repetitive, monotonous babbling. If you’ve ever watched the news channels in Kansas you know what I’m talking about. Sorry Kansas friends!

Only Target One Specific Keyword Phrase

I see this all the time…too many people write an article and try to use the same article for different people in a variety of different niches. To be successful in article marketing you must concentrate the entire text of one specific article towards one specific keyword phrase or niche. Then, you can simply write a another similar article for the other keyword phrases you are targeting. The results will be dramatically higher and longer search engine rankings for your site(s). Focus is the key concept here.

Have A Niche Specific Opt-in Box

This may be an obvious statement, but you would be surprised how many people get this wrong. You need to make sure your opt-in box is specifically targeted towards your desired audience. In plain english…you don’t want to write an article about dirt bike racing adventures or plastic surgery for ‘wannabe’ dirt bike racers and then try to sell a business opportunity to your readers. Not only will this annoy your readers and drive them away, but it can also get you ‘black listed’ on the article directories.

Promote… Promote… Promote…

The ultimate goal of article marketing is to get quality traffic to your site(s)…and promoting your content in how you do that. Promotion is really the ‘secret sauce’ that allowed me to create massive traffic and high quality visitors to my blog in such a short amount of time. For every article I create, I promote it through article syndication, social bookmarking, video marketing and through my Facebook and Twitter accounts. There are some little tricks to making this all work, but the overall effect of utilizing the social bookmarks, social networks, video sharing sites and article syndication gives a dramatic and immediate traffic boost before my search engine rankings even start to kick in to gear. When you combine it all together, this is what makes everything I do dramatically more effective.

In a nutshell my friends… leverage your own personality to create unique, relevant content and then run it through your promotional formula while keeping all the foundational principles in mind and you will see a dramatic and lasting increase in your results.
